Hi Kelli! Thank you so, so much for sharing your story and update. I have been a large supporter of the Houston Chapter of Susan G. Komen for several years now. My family and I have donated many items to the Chapter's Annual Pasta Party & Silent Auction (handmade afghans, special poems I've written, jewelry etc.) and one year in particular was so touching to me as a writer. A survivor of some 9 years, was staring at a framed poem print I'd written. I walked up to her and said, "You must really like the print." She said, "It's the most beautiful thing I've ever read and speaks to the heart of all I have gone through." I fought a tear and said, "I'm the author." She hugged me. At the end of the auction, she had lost the bid for the print, found me and cried. (I later sent her a special copy of the poem.) The woman who won the bidding, that year, stopped me 2 years ago and said, "I won the bid for your poem that Kathy had wanted and read it every morning as a reminder of why I am so fortunate." There's no greater feeling in the world than touching lives that deeply and I was honored to share your story!

On our business Facebook, http://www.facebook.com/weddingsperformed from September 26th through October 31st's conclusion to Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we pledged to donate $1 per fan to the Houston Chapter of Susan G. Komen. Our donation ended up being $237. It warmed my heart to know how many people are moved so passionately for a breast cancer cure! Many of our new fans during the month, largely brides-to-be, shared their stories about how the disease has affected them.

Good luck and best wishes for your treatments and recovery. I'll say a prayer for you and your family. Faith and prayer do work miracles.

May God bless your life richly in 2012!
Happy New Year,

Hello!

This is the (what I'm now known as the "Breast Cancer Bride", Kelli. I just happened to stumble upon this via Google & feel so honored that you mentioned our story.
My husband proposed to me in 2009, 2 weeks after my lasy chemo round & 2 weeks before my bi-lateral mastectomy. After that, I went through 6 weeks of radiation & went into remission for 1 glorious year! During that time, I started a cancer support group in Dallas to pay it forward. By going to our website, you can see all that we do.

Exactly 1 year after our "I Do's" - I was in the hospital doing scans & tests. Within that month, I under went 2 surgeries, scans, tests, & after my PET scan was given the news that my cancer has metastasized to my lungs & lymph nodes between my lungs....so, now at Stage 4.

It's been unbelievable how much each year has changed. But, though it all, as hard as it is...I count my blessings everyday!

I feel honored that you mentioned our story and felt that I needed to give you an update. I just had my 3rd round of chemo today and will be celebrating New Years Eve with a band that supports Susan G. Komen in a hotel party in Frisco. I believe some of your representatives will be present & part of the proceeds are going towards Susan G. Komen. I'm very excited to be a part of such a special celebration!

Many Blessings & Happy New Year!
Kelli

Hi Lynn....

Although I agree that every bride should make up an emergency kit, any wedding planner or coordinator worth their salt should carry a more comprehensive kit that will take care of any and every mishap.

Sorry to disappoint you, but the motto 'Be Prepared' was in actual fact penned by Robert Baden-Powell, who founded the Boy Scout movement in England in 1907.

A little off subject but... For many years the Scout movements' main thrust has been to teach young boys to be good citizens and good leaders. Be prepared to do your duty is the byword for its members – duty to God, to the country and to fellow citizens.

In fact, it was one such gesture that led to the movement being taken from England to the United States by an American businessman, William D. Boyce. The story goes that he was once lost in a London fog and was helped by a Boy Scout. On learning about the movement and having experiencing its' values first hand, Boyce imported the Boy Scout movement to America in 1910.

The motto now known worldwide was actually made famous by the Boy Scout movement....and not the Boy Scouts of America.
